Mass torts and class actions differ in an important way. In a class action, all plaintiffs share essentially the same damages and are represented as a single unified group. In a mass tort, plaintiffs share a common defendant and a common cause — but each person’s injuries and damages are evaluated individually. Most of the cases we handle in this area are mass torts, which means your individual circumstances still matter even as part of a larger group of claimants.

Mass torts and class actions are both types of lawsuits that involve a large group of people with claims against a common defendant, but they differ in several ways. Often mass torts are because while there is a common defendant, the damages to each plaintiff are different even if the action is the same. In a class action, the plaintiffs not only share the common defendant and the causing action but the damages are extremely similar in nature.

Dow Chemical – Hahnville

The case has been set for trial in November 2026.

Because talc is often naturally found near asbestos in the earth, the talc can easily become contaminated by the toxin while being mined. Some products have been linked to cases of mesothelioma, lung cancer and ovarian cancer.

Water Contamination

There is overwhelming evidence showing how PFAS is cancer-causing, such as kidney cancer, testicular cancer, and ulcerative colitis. . In Louisiana, concern over PFAS contamination is increasing, especially in public water systems. The presence of PFAS poses health risks and is linked to various adverse outcomes. Monitoring and addressing PFAS contamination are crucial for Louisiana’s community health protection and exposure prevention.

GLP-1 Receptor Drugs

There are now lawsuits involving Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy, Trulicity, and Mounjaro that, as of February 2024, is an MDL class action lawsuit.
